Gone West: Linc Dexter

Lincoln Appleton Dexter, Jr.
1936 – 2020

Lincoln A. Dexter Jr. of North Fort Myers passed away peacefully on Saturday February 1, 2020. Linc who was an avid aviator could not have scripted his untimely death any better. He passed away, in flight, while circumnavigating the globe on a 60-day flight/cruise vacation. Accompanying him was the mother of his children and love of his life Patricia Tangusso. Linc was a larger than life figure who lived each day to the fullest and was known by his family and friends as a great story teller. His love of flying started at age 13 and spanned 70 years. He started his Navy career as a pilot where he developed a passion for warbirds. As a pilot and mechanic he was the “go to guy” when people had difficult challenges and was considered an expert in T6 and T28 aircraft. He was lucky enough to be one of the few pilots touring with the B17 and was inducted into the EAA Hall of Fame in 2001. His network of friends and aviation enthusiasts was endless and very special to him. Everyone he met was a friend. Linc is survived by his sister Harriett Dempsey and his children Deborah St Cyr, Gregory Dexter, Terri Bremmon, Jane Haines, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held in his honor. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please donate in his memory to the EAA Warbirds of America. Checks made payable to: EAA Warbirds of America, 3000 Poberezny Road, Oshkosh, WI, 54903-3086.  All donors will receive a recognition letter with tax information included.
