Commemorative Air Force to Bring B-17 and B-25 to Planes of Fame in May
May 13, 2022 - May 15, 2022
Rides Available Friday, May 13 thru Sunday, May 15, 2022
The Commemorative Air Force, Arizona Wing, will be returning to Planes of Fame Air Museum in two weeks to offer rides and participate in our May Flying Demo Event.
This year, they’re bringing both their B-17 Flying Fortress “Sentimental Journey” and their B-25 Mitchell “Maid in the Shade” to the Museum and offering rides throughout their visit.
They will arrive on Thursday, May 12 around noon and open both aircraft to Museum visitors. Beginning Friday, May 13, and continuing Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15, both aircraft will be offering rides at great prices!
Costs for a B-25 ride range from $375 to $590 and from $475 to $850 in the B-17. Each historical ride into history lasts between 20 to 30 minutes. Both the B-17 and the B-25 will also be available for “inside the aircraft tours” Friday, Saturday, and Sunday following their flights. The tours of the aircraft are included with your Museum admission (Members get in free!).
On Saturday, May 14, things get really special as the Museum will be conducting another “Hangar Talk and Flying Demo” event. Hangar Talk will focus on the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, the incredible Norden Bomb Sight and the role of the Bombardier, and an inspirational look at aircraft as “fire bombers” plus more!
The Flying Demo will feature the Museum’s P-51D “Mustang” in a dazzling aerial display over the Museum.
Engine start and taxi of the Mustang will happen immediately in front of our visitors at 12:15pm. This event will be preceeded by the engine start and taxi of the B-25 at noon and will be followed by engine start and taxi of the B-17 at 12:16pm! Talk about a great experience for everyone in attendance.
There are only a handful of B-17 and B-25 aircraft left in the world that are available for rides. If you want a ride, don’t delay, as these flights will fill up quickly.
