    EAA Warbirds of America Obtains Exemption from 14 CFR, Part 91.531(a) (1)

    Exemption # 10588 Clarifies Second in Command Requirements

    September 7, 2012 - The FAA has granted EAA Warbirds of America an exemption from 14 CFR, 91.531(a)(1) to the extent necessary to allow its members to operate large airplanes, that possess experimental certificates for the purpose of exhibition, without a pilot who is designated as second in command provided the aircraft:

    (1) Was originally designed with only one pilot station; or

    (2) Was originally designed with more than one pilot station (or a single pilot station and a required flight crewmember station) and was authorized by an armed force that operated the aircraft to be operated with only one pilot station and no additional flight crewmember.
